• A Zimbabwean woman allegedly killed her husband after discovering he had secretly married another woman he considered more educated and of higher status
  • The man had reportedly withheld intimacy and finances for years, telling his wife her lack of education made her unworthy of him
  • The wife only learnt of her husband's secret marriage after spotting a Roora Day status post on social media in 2025

A Zimbabwean woman allegedly killed her husband after years of reported neglect, financial exclusion and the devastating discovery that he had secretly married another woman while still living under the same roof.

The story emerged on August 14 via a Facebook post shared by News Byte, drawing on the woman's own account of a marriage that had been quietly unravelling since 2022.

According to the account, the husband, who holds a PhD, reportedly told his wife that her level of education disqualified her from being treated as his equal.

He allegedly used this reasoning to justify withholding intimacy between 2022 and 2025, as well as refusing to share any information about his earnings, insisting the money was his alone. Left without financial support, the woman resorted to small informal trade, including selling eggs, to sustain herself.

A Secret Marriage Revealed Through Social Media

The situation took a sharper turn when the husband reportedly left the matrimonial home to spend a full year living with another woman. When he eventually returned, he allegedly told his wife that he had found a "proper wife" who matched his academic and social standing.

What followed was a discovery the woman had not anticipated. She learnt that her husband had gone ahead and formalised a marriage with the other woman without her knowledge. The revelation did not come through any direct disclosure; she stumbled upon a status post marking the couple's Roora Day, the traditional lobola ceremony in which a groom's family presents bride price to the woman's family.

The betrayal, compounded by years of alleged emotional and financial abuse, reportedly pushed the woman to a breaking point. She is alleged to have killed her husband in the aftermath of these events.

Years of Alleged Abuse Precede the Killing

The woman's account, painted a picture of a household in which she felt invisible and disposable. She alleged that her husband had misrepresented the state of their marriage to those around them, telling others he loved her while reportedly treating her with contempt at home.

The case has drawn attention to the pressures faced by women in marriages marked by educational disparity, financial control and infidelity, though the legal proceedings arising from the alleged killing had not been detailed in the available account at the time of reporting.
