• Lily Cherono, 53, from Kipsingor Village in Trans Nzoia County, was last heard from on September 9, 2026, when she messaged her husband
  • Her family fears she may have been abducted, though police have not confirmed that possibility and no ransom demand has been received
  • A licensed firearm belonging to her husband also went missing from their home and has become a key part of the ongoing investigation

A Trans Nzoia family is desperately searching for answers after a 53-year-old woman vanished nearly three weeks ago without a trace.

Lily Cherono, from Kipsingor Village in Cherangany, Trans Nzoia County, was last in contact with her family on September 9, 2026. At approximately 1:30 p.m. that afternoon, she sent a message to her husband, Michael Kimtai, telling him she planned to travel to Mombasa the next day to take a break from their relationship.

Kimtai was in Nairobi at the time for a medical appointment. He reportedly urged her to wait so they could work through their difficulties together. Shortly after that exchange, Lily's phone was switched off and has not been reachable since.

A Locked House and a Missing Firearm

When a farmhand arrived at the property the following morning to check on things, the main house was locked from the outside. Police were called and, upon searching the premises, discovered that Kimtai's licensed firearm and its carrying case were also missing. Investigators have since made the missing weapon a central element of their inquiry, using it to help trace what may have taken place at the residence.

A missing person report was formally lodged at Kachibora Police Station on September 16, a week after Lily was last heard from. Since then, detectives and forensic officers have been combing through the property, reviewing phone records and collecting any evidence that might shed light on her movements and whereabouts.

Family Fears Abduction

Lily's relatives believe she may have been abducted, though police have not confirmed that theory. There has been no reported ransom demand and no communication from anyone claiming to be holding her.

For nearly three weeks, the family has been left in agonising uncertainty, with no clear answers and no word on where Lily might be.

The case was first brought to wider public attention through a Facebook post by Peter Njenga on September 29, 2026, appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone who may have seen Lily Cherono or who holds any information that could assist investigators is urged to report to the nearest police station.
