A woman known as Rosemary Koech Kamwatu reportedly died by suicide in Kericho County on August 29, leaving behind a detailed personal journal that offered a painful window into the struggles she had faced in the final period of her life.

During what appeared to be her funeral or memorial service, a speaker addressed the gathered mourners beside floral arrangements and a casket, reading directly from Rosemary's handwritten journals to those present.

What the Journal Revealed

According to the speaker, Rosemary had kept meticulous journals documenting her navigation of the business world, her marriage difficulties and her relationships with colleagues. The speaker described the entries as "heartbreaking because you see the state of her mind by the time of her passing."

The entries read aloud centred on a single, recurring theme: the anguish of having worked exceptionally hard to build something, only to feel shut out of enjoying the fruits of that effort. In her own words, Rosemary wrote about feeling that someone else felt "more entitled" to what she had created, that she could not enjoy it alongside her children and that she feared her hard work might ultimately benefit another person entirely.

"The fact that I feel undervalued by people I gave my all," she wrote, adding that she had always believed hard work should earn respect.

She acknowledged that being "tougher" might have changed things but noted that such an approach would have been draining and contrary to who she was.

Notably, she wrote that her frustration was not rooted in personal relationships or prior partnerships, but specifically in the tangible things she had built. "This makes things easier to deal with because I replace the film, then I feel much better," she reflected.

A Promise She Made to Herself

In a passage that resonated deeply with the mourners, Rosemary had written a message of resolve to herself: "I shall not let a three years fund define me and the rest of my life with the consequences for the next few months. All this shall pass."

The entry suggested she had been actively trying to reframe her situation and find a path forward, making the circumstances of her death all the more devastating for those who knew her.
